Most website owners only discover these risks when it's already too late
Unmaintained websites are easy targets for hackers and malware.
Outdated systems are slower and deliver a worse user experience.
Without regular backups, a server failure can cause total data loss.
Outdated plugins and themes can cause functionality errors.
What is the real difference in downtime, security risk and SEO impact?
| Area | With regular maintenance | Without maintenance |
|---|---|---|
| Downtime | < 1 hour/year (instant detection & fix) | 8–24+ hours per incident, often unnoticed |
| Security risk | Low — weekly updates, malware monitoring | High — outdated plugins are hacker targets |
| Google ranking (SEO) | Stable or improving — fast site, Core Web Vitals OK | Declining — slow site, technical errors penalised |
| Loading speed | 1–2 sec — regular optimisation | 5–10+ sec — outdated cache, unoptimised DB |
| Data loss risk | Minimal — daily backup, fast restore | Critical — one server failure = total data loss |
| Plugin/theme compatibility | Tested before update, staged environment | Unknown — any update may break functionality |
| Monthly cost | €45–€215/month (predictable) | €400–€1,400+ per incident (crisis recovery) |
Key stat: 98% of WordPress security incidents stem from outdated software (Wordfence, 2024). Recovering from and cleaning up a single hack typically costs €400–€1,400 — equivalent to 1–3 years of maintenance fees.

Two projects where regular maintenance made a concrete difference to revenue
The restaurant's WordPress site had not received any updates for 18 months. A hacker exploited a WooCommerce plugin vulnerability and deleted the booking database.
Since switching to the Business plan, there have been zero serious incidents in 2 years. Daily backups and automatic updates eliminate the possibility of a repeat hack.
The online booking system took 6 seconds to load on mobile. 62% of visitors left before the page finished loading. Google PageSpeed score was 28.
Speed optimisation (WebP image conversion, cache setup, database cleanup) combined with regular maintenance reduced load time by 70% and increased bookings by 45%.

The most commonly asked questions about website maintenance
Website maintenance starts from ~€45/month with the Basic Protection plan, which includes security updates, regular backups, uptime monitoring and SSL. The Business plan is ~€80/month (daily backups, SEO monitoring, monthly support credit), and the Premium plan is ~€215/month (dedicated VPS, staging environment, webshop monitoring). All plans include free migration and free hosting.
Unmaintained websites are 3x more likely to be hacked. The most common consequences: outdated plugin security vulnerabilities (98% of WordPress hacks stem from outdated software), worsening Google rankings due to slow page speed, data loss without backups, and downtime during business hours. Recovering from a single serious incident typically costs €400–€1,400 — equivalent to 1–3 years of maintenance fees.
Every plan includes regular security updates: PHP version, WordPress core, themes and plugins. Updates are tested in a staging environment before going to the live site. Backup frequency depends on the plan: Basic offers regular backups, Business and Premium plans include automatic daily backups.
The backup includes the full database, all files (WordPress core, plugins, themes), the media library and configuration files. Data is stored in multiple locations using cloud-based storage. Restoration takes 1–4 hours when needed — for downtime-causing incidents I begin recovery immediately.
I respond to standard requests within 24 hours. For urgent cases (hacked website, full downtime, data loss) I react immediately and begin recovery — usually restoring the site within 2–4 hours. 24/7 uptime monitoring alerts me automatically if the site goes offline, so I often start fixing issues before the client even notices.
I maintain WordPress websites and webshops (WooCommerce), custom PHP applications, and React/Next.js websites. Most of my clients use WordPress, where I have the most experience. If your site uses a different technology, I assess it during the free consultation and confirm whether I can help.
There is no minimum contract period, though the best results come from longer-term collaboration. The service can be cancelled at any time with 30 days' notice. Upon cancellation, I hand over all access credentials and help with migration to another provider if needed.
Hosting only provides the physical server space — it keeps the server running but doesn't look after your website's software, security or content. Website maintenance is much more: it includes software updates, security checks, performance optimisation, bug fixes and content updates. The plans I offer include hosting as well.
Migration is free and completely seamless — you don't need to do anything. I handle the entire process: backup from the original host, transfer to the new server, DNS configuration, SSL activation and testing. The original site keeps running throughout, with no noticeable downtime at the moment of switchover.
Business and Premium plans include a detailed end-of-month report: list of updates applied, number and size of backups, uptime statistics, PageSpeed score trends, and — where the plan includes SEO monitoring — a summary of ranking changes. Basic plan clients can request a summary on demand.
